Matthew Hayden is a tall, powerfully built man who plays with authority. He is a player whose sheer weight of runs has made him one of Australia's best performing batsmen of recent years.  On account of the absence of any real weaknesses in his game, he has proved brilliantly at performing an opening batting role at club, state and county level. He illustrates a beautifully uncomplicated technique, which allows him to drive forcefully from the front foot, and issue thunderously executed cuts, hooks and pulls from the back. Although his position is not secure in the national team because of the presence of strong competition still his consistency and thirst for runs would surely help him in making his own identity in the international arena.
